Leading with a Coaching Mindset
This training is for leaders who want to support their team members' independent growth through questions and active listening. We practice a conversation model you can use in everyday situations on the participants' own cases.
What is the program about?
A 1- or 2-day group training, in person or online; Thod support available on request.
Leadership used to consist mainly of giving instructions and checking up. Today, employees do good work and stay when their manager supports their development and gives them responsibility. The coaching mindset offers a practical framework for this in everyday work: asking instead of jumping straight to a solution, hearing what lies behind the problem, and setting goals in a way the other person also owns.
What you take away: a sharper observer's perspective and neutral assessment of situations; an understanding of what leadership coaching is and its foundations, with practice in active listening; the concept of the psychological contract and the practice of contracting.
Who is the program for?
For leaders who want to support their team members' independent growth through questions and active listening. It is especially timely when leaders want to expand their everyday toolkit with a coaching mindset.
When is it worth starting?
- commitment to developing employees and to taking responsibility needs strengthening
- active listening and questioning techniques need work.
How we work
The training provides a concrete conversation model that keeps working after the training: in problem solving, performance development and knowledge transfer alike. We practice questioning techniques and active listening on the participants' own current leadership situations, not on case studies.
In the training, we learn the foundations and tools of leadership coaching: the GROW model, the psychological contract, questioning techniques and active listening, and the perspectives of situational leadership and Transactional Analysis.
Program topics
- conflict management styles
- the concept of coaching, the foundations of the coaching mindset
- situational leadership, the Transactional Analysis (TA) model

Delivery
We tailor the weighting of the topics to the client organization's situation. On request, we support the program with the Thod learning support system, which helps participants keep applying what they have learned between training days.
It is also worth starting if:
- employees' problems need to be handled with a development mindset, not as firefighting
- you also want to learn the concept and practice of the psychological contract.
Further outcomes:
- the ability to handle employees' problems with a development mindset.
