This training is for leaders who want to turn recognition and corrective feedback into a motivational tool they can use every day.

What is the program about?

1- or 2-day group training, in person or online; also available with Thod support.

Feedback is one of a leader's most powerful motivational tools, and it costs nothing: it's available without limit. Yet few people use it well, because it's hard to use well. Recognition often goes missing, and corrective feedback is either never voiced or voiced in a way that does more harm than good.

What you take away: deliberate preparation for giving feedback and thorough information gathering; feedback techniques you've mastered and can apply in a tailored way; thinking in terms of SMART goals, and a greater ability to involve and empower your people.

Effective Feedback Techniques

Who is the program for?

For leaders who want to turn recognition and corrective feedback into a tool they can use every day. It is especially timely when the motivational potential of feedback should be put to better use.

When is it worth starting?

  • there is a performance appraisal system, but the feedback methodology needs work
  • leaders are unsure when, how often and how to give feedback.

How we work

The training has participants practice asking for and receiving feedback just as much as giving it, because that is the only way leaders get an accurate picture of their own performance too. We practice proven conversation models so that even difficult messages come across constructively.

Almost every organization has some kind of performance appraisal system in place; feedback methodology can give it substance. In the training, we learn how to prepare for giving feedback, when and how often it's worth giving, what techniques there are, and how our impressions distort what we think we see.

Program topics

  • feedback to colleagues and direct reports
  • when and how often to give feedback
  • preparing for the appraisal
  • style and subject of feedback
  • components of individual performance
  • feedback techniques
  • goal setting and milestones
  • sources of impressions, perceptual biases.

Delivery

We adjust the weighting of topics to the client organization's situation. On request, we support the program with the Thod learning support system, which keeps participants applying what they've learned between training days.

It is also worth starting if:

  • thinking in terms of SMART goals and setting milestones is also a goal.
