Strategic Thinking
This training is for leaders who want to rise above day-to-day operations and make decisions that fit the bigger picture.
What is the program about?
1- or 2-day group training, in person or online; also available with Thod support.
What makes a leader a reliable point of reference for their people over the long term is that their decisions fit the strategy instead of being dictated by day-to-day pressure. That requires seeing the difference between strategic and operational leadership, analyzing the environment and the organization, and knowing your own decision-making style: when intuition carries you, and when rational deliberation does.
What you take away: the foundations of a strategic mindset, from thinking to planning; the ability to analyze environmental and organizational factors strategically and to review implementation risks; insight into your own decision-making processes, and stronger awareness of how you decide.
Who is the program for?
For leaders who want to rise above day-to-day operations and make decisions that fit the bigger picture. It is especially timely when the ability to make decisions in line with the strategy needs to be developed.
When is it worth starting?
- awareness of the difference between leadership and management tasks, and between strategic and operational leadership, needs to be built
- environmental and organizational factors need to be analyzed and implementation risks understood.
How we work
We move from types of strategy and strategic planning, through implementation risks, to a structured decision-making model, with the decision cycle in hand. The goal isn't a strategic vocabulary, but leadership skills that work with a strategic perspective on Monday morning too.
From analyzing the environment to setting goals and planning, we practice structured decision-making tools.
Program topics
- strategic and operational leadership: levels of leadership and management tasks
- types of strategy, a strategic perspective in planning
- strategic planning: environmental analysis and implementation issues
- implementing strategic decisions
- individual decision-making processes: the interplay of intuition and rationality
- your personal decision-making style, finding a comfortable balance
- the decision cycle: a structured decision-making model.
Delivery
We adjust the weighting of topics to the client organization's situation. On request, we support the program with the Thod learning support system, which keeps participants applying what they've learned between training days.
It is also worth starting if:
- leaders want to better understand their own decision-making style and the balance between intuition and rationality
- a structured decision-making model is needed for everyday leadership work.
