Problem-Solving, Assertive Communication

Who is the program for?

For leaders and employees who want to find a firm, collaborative voice instead of the passive or aggressive extremes. It is especially timely when workplace communication often slips into passive or aggressive patterns.

When is it worth starting?

  • the goal is communication that is assertive yet collaborative, even in difficult situations
  • active listening and empathy need to be developed in everyday collaboration.

How we work

The training provides a four-step I-message that lets you deliver criticism so that the other person listens instead of getting defensive. The assertive triangle, recognizing communication roadblocks and active listening complete the framework.

Workplace communication can slip in two wrong directions: passive, where you swallow what you think, and aggressive, where the other person has to swallow it. Assertive communication is the third way: standing up firmly for your interests while leaving room for the other party's goals and objections, without damaging the relationship.

In the training, we learn to recognize the three behaviors in ourselves and in others, and then practice the assertive tools: the four-step I-message, active listening and empathy, and recognizing communication roadblocks. We use the participants' own cases for the situational exercises so that the collaborative, win-win solution becomes a practice, not just a principle.

We practice conversation techniques that make it possible to stand up for your interests and preserve the relationship at the same time.

Program topics

Delivery

We tailor the weighting of the topics to the client organization's situation. On request, we support the program with the Thod learning support system, which helps participants keep applying what they have learned between training days.
