Leading Virtual Teams
This training is for leaders who want to hold a diverse, remote community together, even without meeting in person.
What is the program about?
One-day group training, in person or online; also available with Thod support.
Leading a team whose members rarely or never meet in person is a different task from leading an office-based team. Trust doesn't build itself in the hallway, misunderstandings don't get cleared up over coffee, and meetings easily become an empty routine. If the team is culturally diverse as well, all of this is even more true.
What you take away: a picture of team members' different needs and preferences; concrete tools for establishing communication norms for virtual collaboration; a more conscious leadership approach for bridging the difficulties of virtual collaboration.
Who is the program for?
For leaders who want to hold a diverse, remote community together, even without meeting in person. It is especially timely when teams rarely or never meet in person.
When is it worth starting?
- leaders need to hold together a virtual team that is also culturally diverse
- building trust or avoiding misunderstandings is difficult in the virtual space.
How we work
We also provide a kind of user manual for team members' personality types: who needs what in a virtual meeting, and how active listening and good questions can make up for not being in the same room. The day also covers what makes an online meeting useful rather than an empty routine.
The one-day training provides frameworks and tools for building trust in the virtual space, recognizing different communication styles and avoiding misunderstandings.
We show how to create trust, transparency and a shared rhythm among people working from different locations.
Program topics
- building trust in the virtual space
- recognizing communication styles
- making up for physical presence with communication tools: active listening, questioning techniques
- avoiding misunderstandings
- structuring virtual meetings
- personality types and a “user manual” for team members.
Delivery
We adjust the weighting of topics to the client organization's situation. On request, we support the program with the Thod learning support system, which keeps participants applying what they've learned between training days.
It is also worth starting if:
- the structure and usefulness of virtual meetings need to improve
- leaders want to better understand team members' different needs and personality types in remote collaboration.
